I was at the Museum of Modern Art two days ago while visiting New York, and came across the work of talented Pakistani artists, Shahzia Sikander. The particular piece on exhibit was, Candied, which caught my eye and heart. Twenty pieces of paper, prepared with a painted background were tiled on a large wall. Each sheet was a mixed-media composition of inks and gouche. The monochromatic pinks and corals were so romantic, and I just wish I had a photo to share.
Here are two small examples of Shahzia’s work, the first one from the Candied piece I mentioned. Imagine the same fluid strokes and beautiful soft colours, in twenty different pieces! I think painted backgrounds and rough edges would look very interesting for a set of invites :)
If you are in the area, and happen to visit MOMA (which I strongly suggest you do because the current Tim Burton and Bauhaus modernity exhibitions are breath-taking to all artists/non-artists, adults and children), Shahzia’s piece is located on the first floor in the contemporary section.
