Yesterday was Macaron Day and I was so stoked that an entire day was in favour of my sweet tooth. I wish I could have hit up all the locations in Toronto, but alas, there are only so many hours in the day and I had work to take care of as usual. But I managed to visit the 2 nearest locations to me, Ruelo Patisserie and Butter Avenue. Sadly Butter Ave. had run out of their freebies by the time we arrived but that didn’t stop us from picking up a box to take home. I love their packaging and logo (maybe I’m bias because I own a pug, but I think it’s adorable).
I’m excited to try all the flavours. They stressed that the salted caramel is a top pick so of course I grabbed that, but my matcha one this morning was pretty darn good too. I’m especially looking forward to tasting the oolong one. I’ve never come across an oolong dessert before.
I thought it was such a wonderful idea and to honour a beautiful, delicate confection in support of the local charity, Red Door Family Shelter.

The brilliant minds over at Dynamo came up with the concept of combining original type design with gourmet chocolate. They teamed up with Suite 88, MontrĂ©al’s premier chocolatier, and let them work their magic. The result was some delicious heavyweight slabs of chocolate, engraved with positive mantras for the new year. Check out their post featuring their mouth-watering typocolate.

I swear if most bakers were asked what their favourite thing to play with was as a kid, most of them would answer Play-Doh. Well, at least that’s the impression I get when I see adorable creations like the ones from Sugar Baking. They offer custom cupcake, cookie, and mini cake delivery around the GTA. The attention to detail in every piece is remarkable!
Check out their website and Flickr page for more sweet details and photos.

A couple weeks ago I attended the Mass Exodus fashion event at Ryerson. I was there to perform my duties as a event rep and serve people some delicious tea. It was a great time and I was making great connections as usual, but I couldn’t take my eye of these…

While on break, I may have taken more than one to snack on and was blown away by the light fluffy chocolate cake and perfectly sweet and satisfying icing. I had to swipe a card. I followed up with baker Heidi from Eat Cake Love, and although she says it’s something she just does “on the side”, her passion for baking truly shines in these beautifully constructed treats. Drop her a line at eatcakelove@live.ca if you’re in the Toronto area and want to experience them for yourself.

David’s Tea (my favourite tea spot in Canada, of course) has finally jumped on the wedding bandwagon! Of course their tea has always been available for creating thoughtful and delicious party favours, but now they make it easier than ever with a area of the company dedicated entirely to this process. Check out all the details here.
Not that into tea yet? Well what are you waiting for? Read up on my previous posts about this awesome gift idea:

I know many of us get bombarded with sweet treats and holiday eats this time of year, but I think the most rewarding experience is making a little something from scratch for yourself and others to share. And with all that time off, what trouble is it to spend a little portion of it in the kitchen? Even if you’re not the best cook or baker, put yourself up to the challenge! Invite a friend over, or your significant other, or any family members that want to lend a helping hand. Cooking or baking in a team is a great way to spend some quality time together and have a bit of fun too. So if you’re looking for a mouth-watering recipe, I suggest Tara’s blog Seven Spoons. Her photography is so delightful! She’s and Ontarian like myself and has had a fair amount of media attention in the past year, so bravo Tara!
All of Tara’s blog recipes are listed here, and scroll through her beautiful food photography on Flickr.

Amberlee of Giver’s Log posted a really cool and tasty idea for a nighttime picnic or party that was recently featured on Craftzine: glowing snow cones. Normally I wouldn’t want to drink something that turned such intense neon hues, but for this method, I’m game! It’s safe and simple. Serve me up please!

Liz Shim, owner and head designer of Eat Cake, Be Merry in New York, couldn’t have chose a better name for her custom bake shop. Spotted on Something Old, Something New, these detailed edible works of art immediately caught my attention. Everything from colour, pattern, and texture is fabulous! ……fabulously delicious too, I’m sure.
