Friday Wrap: Ghostly Treats

Halloween is quickly creeping up on us. So I’ve come up with a fun, easy, and bargain solution for treating your Halloween guests.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. White coffee filters (small or medium works best for these giveaway treat bags; I’ve used small for this tutorial)
  2. Scissors
  3. Ribbon (in whatever festive colours you like)
  4. Candy
  5. Sharpie or a black marker

1. Go out and buy some delicious Halloween sweets. For each small treat bag you will need about half a palm full. Remember, don’t over-do it! Just a few pieces of candy is the perfect amount to nibble on. Featured here: toasted coconut marshmallows, mini Hersey chocolate bars, candy corn, vampire teeth gummies, and seasonal Jelly Bellies.

2. If you can manage to pick up some extra clear plastic candy bags at the candy store – great! If not, grab a few ziploc bags from the kitchen and you can always cut off the ziploc part with scissors in order for it to work for this project. Then, pack one of the bags with that small pile of candies meant for a single serving, and wrap 2 coffee filters firmly over the top of the bag.

3. Now take the ribbon and wrap it around to tie a bow, tightly locking the candies inside the filter.

4. Turn the unfinished ghost on its head and start feathering out the ruffles of the filter so it sits down nicely, like a rosette. At this point, you can trim the plastic bag if the ends of it are sticking out too much.

5. Sit the ghost right side up again (the bulb of candy at the top) and take out your Sharpie to draw a face. Have fun with this step! Get creative and think of some crazy ghost faces to make. Or even try some other popular Halloween faces – like vampires or jack-o-laterns. See below… I got carried away.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Personalized M&Ms

I Love You M&Ms

Giulia and I both got spoiled with chocolate this past Valentine’s day. We don’t know what our boyfriends were thinking. Although I love chocolate, I’m not the type who gets all giddy over a box of assorted chocolates. It’s just… there are more practical, original things out there to surprise me with. But hey – don’t think I’m hatin’ on my bf’s V-day gift to me. Because what he got me was actually my all-time favourite type of chocolate – peanut M&Ms. And not only did I get one, but TWO large bags of them. Pretty sure the first thing that came out of my mouth when I opened the pretty pink gift bag was: “Oh my god. Are you trying to kill me?” That’s because his wonderful mother got me the exact same thing for X-mas and they were all gone in 3 days! *Sigh… they are my ultimate weakness.

Personalized M&Ms for an anniversary

M&M gifts

But because of this, I thought: February is the perfect month to feature a chocolate gift/favour idea. And if you can personalize it… even better! Check out MyMMs.com to make your own custom M&M candies. They could work for many occasions, like anniversaries, baby showers, weddings, or corporate events. You can add logos, faces, and personalized messages. It’s quite amazing actually. Simply go to the website, pick from 20 different colours, type in a message or upload a photo, then pick you packaging, and voila! In about two you’ll have something sweet and original at your doorstep.

My M&Ms

Unfortunately they do not print on the peanut ones. Too bad for me. But I still think it’s super cool.

Real Wedding: Rachel & Evan

I met Rachel through my friend Victoria (featured previously in our Real Weddings section). I helped complete her stationery set with Thank You cards, which was a complete pleasure. This is her story…

the happy couple

Rachel and Evan were married at Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax, Ontario on August 22, 2009. The couple don’t actually live anywhere near Ajax, but picked it because they wanted a place that none of their guests had been to and they just happened to fall in love with the spot after taking a tour. Even luckier, the building coincidentally matched their wedding colours: green and white.

I’m not usually a big fan of green, but I adore how light-hearted and sweet it comes off by using the various shades (as seen with the cupcakes and candies below).

Speaking of cupcakes…

…it was extremely apparent at the wedding that Rachel and Evan both have a huge sweet tooth. They featured two different desserts following the meal (one for men and one for ladies)  and had a candy station that Rachel put together herself in green and white tones. It featured rock candy, Jelly Bellys, gummies, Hershey Kisses etc.  Guests were even witnessed using the rock candy as microphones to sing with while dancing at the reception. How fun! And if that weren’t enough, they even had a late night sweet table with tons of cakes and pies and cookies, as well as a chocolate fountain. Perhaps followed by some gut ache (but so worth it).

happily ever after

Rachel’s big goal for the overall event: being able to look back at the pictures in 20 years and not go ‘OMG, what was I thinking?’ Mission achieved? I think so. :)

Congrats again guys! Hope you’re enjoying the newly-wed phase.

UPDATE: Just wanted to mention that more of Rachel & Evan’s lovely wedding photos can be viewed here at the HRM Photography blog.
