Charlie’s First Birthday

These past 2 weekends have been full of fun and celebration. Last weekend when I traveled to Brampton to complete my skating coach course, I also stayed with friends Victoria and Wade and their adorable son Charlie. His rocket themed first birthday was spectacular, with everything from sugar cookies, cheesecake pops, fabric garlands, pom poms, a DIY photobooth and backdrop that I constructed, and of course Victoria’s delicious cupcakes. Her friend Stephanie was also slaving in the kitchen alongside, since she is super talented with baking treats too.

Victoria runs a cupcake catering business called Victory Cupcakes, and in my opinion – her product is top notch! (My sweet tooth was beyond satisfied). I can’t get enough of that vanilla buttercream frosting she makes. You can visit her mommy blog here. She currently has a post up about this weekend’s event, Smile Bash, which was a thrill for both hosts (myself and Scarlet O’Neill Photography). I’ll be posting my version soon!

Thanks again to Victoria and Wade for letting me crash at their place and join in all the fantastic fun and prep for baby Charlie! Can’t wait to do it again next year.

Sugar Baking

I swear if most bakers were asked what their favourite thing to play with was as a kid, most of them would answer Play-Doh. Well, at least that’s the impression I get when I see adorable creations like the ones from Sugar Baking. They offer custom cupcake, cookie, and mini cake delivery around the GTA. The attention to detail in every piece is remarkable!

Check out their website and Flickr page for more sweet details and photos.

Cupcakes and Sundry

cinnamon and pistachio meringue + gingerbread cupcake

Stephanie is a teacher/baker from Port Credit, Ontario who started a wonderful custom cupcakery called Cupcakes and Sundry. She says that she can make any type of cupcake your heart desires; all you have to do is ask! They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes: jumbo cupcakes, regular cupcakes, mini cupcakes or even cupcake pops.

Check out her most recent creation: Blood Orange and Olive Oil cupcakes for this month’s Cupcake Hero competition. It includes Cointreau and blood orange cream cheese frosting – mmmmmm. Sounds delightful. I’m all about the cream cheese frosting.
