Etsy Open Studios

Lately with all the excessive crafting I’ve been doing, I’ve been dreaming of having my own studio space. I know I have a desk, with my computer and books etc., but… *siiigh, what about an entire room, ahem, studio dedicated to my art? Right now it’s just a dream, but maybe someday… For now though (especially if you’re like me), you can explore the Etsy Open Studios Flickr pool where you can visit the studios of Etsy artists, far and wide. All artists, crafters, tinkerers, makers-of-all-things are welcome to share photos of themselves, workshops, creative zones, craft spaces, and studios. And if you do upload, you might even be featured on the Etsy Blog. Woo Hoo! As for right now, I will just start gathering inspiration for decorating my future studio.

Happy Friday!

Mix-And-Match Bedding

The mix-and-match bedding feature on Anthropologie’s site is possibly more fun than a ‘choose your own adventure’. Try it, and maybe you’ll find a perfect pair worth buying!

Soft Maps

Have I ever mentioned how much I love maps as visual inspiration? Well considering this fact, stumbling upon these beautifully crafted Soft Map quilts is probably going to be one of the most exciting things to happen to me today. Soft-Maps © are quilted maps of cities and neighborhoods created by Haptic Lab Inc. that represent someone’s unique place in the world. Wrap your children in them, have a picnic, pull them close during the next Nor’easter. As a keepsake, a Soft-Map serves as an intimate reminder of home: where you’re from and where you belong. In a world that is increasingly digitized and remote, a quilted Soft-Map provides an expressive way to reconnect with your surroundings.

Not only beautiful, these blankets can be used as a mnemonic tool. As your child grows up with a Soft Map, they learn to read their neighborhood and its landmarks in a tactile, easily remembered way.

Soft-Maps are the 2x winner of the 2009 Apartment Therapy Design Showcase and have been featured in Coolhunting, PSFK, Brooklyn Based, L.A. Times and the Cooper Hewitt’s 2009 Reader’s Choice National Design Awards. The quilts are now offered in three different varieties: knotted baby quilts, readymade machine-stitched maps, and custom handmade maps.”

Check out all the details at Haptic Lab’s site.

Terrain Natural Wreaths

I’m not sure quite how, but I stumbled upon these fantastic textured wreaths from Terrain made out of all natural bits of cocoa sticks, purple majesty, golden millet, shaved mahogany bark, and mushrooms. Seriously, it’s pieces like this that I live for! Simple, natural, textured: three of my favourite design components. And if you haven’t already started decorating your home with pretty holiday things like this, start now! It will put you in the spirit.

The new apartment

Happy labour day weekend everyone! Although it’s not completely finished in terms of decorating, I thought it was time to reveal the new apartment we moved into. A cozy new home for Have & Hold Design:

I’m not the only one who loves the new place…

And… I mentioned before that there was supposed to be a new layout for this site to reveal, but as you can see, it remains the same. This is because A) coding is not my specialty, and B) the uploading to WordPress stopped activating immediately. Meaning – I couldn’t see the new changes I made to the layout right away. Thus, this reveal has been postponed. :(

Sorry folks! I’m continuing to work hard at it, and welcome you to come back later for the new site reveal. In the meantime, did you notice the new logo? ;)

And if you haven’t yet, check out the post below for my very first DIY project.

Once again, happy holiday Monday! xo

Real Event: Rachel & Evan, Moved In

Not too long ago, Evan and Rachel finally moved in to their new home that they had built from scratch. How cool is that? I’m pretty sure they picked out everything from the flooring, to the trimmings, to the ceiling fixtures. What an exciting journey! But of course, all that hard work led to this…

Great work guys, and good luck! So glad to have been a part of it by helping you design your moving announcements.

Real Event: Rachel & Evan Moving

I wanted to let these photos explain what I’ve been up to for the past week or so. One of the couples we featured under Real Weddings, Rachel and Evan, are moving into their first home together.  I’m very excited for them, especially since they have gone through the whole building process from start to… well, soon enough, finish. Can’t wait for the final reveal. And how am I a part of this? I’m making custom moving announcements for them. Yay! Can’t wait to reveal those as well.
