Happy Listening: A.M. 180

For a song that’s titled after a weapon and received much of it’s recognition from a horror movie (28 Days Later), you wouldn’t expect this track to have such endearing lyrics and a charming tune similar to that of a childhood video game. But it does. And it’s delightful. Enjoy!

Happy Listening: Your Sweet Voice

Today I bring you a tender tune from folk/rock band Milton Mapes. There’s something undeniably epic about this song. Sometimes, simple words or a single embrace can mean everything to a person. Enjoy!

Happy Listening: Everlasting Light

Been listening to the new Brothers album from the Black Keys for a while now and I finally settled on the perfect song to share with you all. Mind you, I have a few other faves from the album (it’s just so darn good!), but this track seemed most appropriate for this week’s happy listening. It’s got that gritty old rock sound that I’m used to hearing from the band, but lyrics are bold vows of love and devotion. If you think this song’s sexy, I highly recommend you listen to the rest of the album. It gets hotter from this opening track on.

Enjoy!

Happy Listening: Never Tear Us Apart

This Happy Listening is inspired by my current television obsession: So You Think You Can Dance. A few episodes back, I was blown away by a performance by José (who is an untrained breaker) and all-star partner Lauren to INXS’ Never Tear Us Apart. It was magic!

And in true H&H fashion, I bring you a cover version of that classic rock ballad by a new formation known as Record Club, featuring the likes of Beck and Annie Clark from St. Vincent (just to name a few). A description and tracklist of the band can be found on Beck’s official site.

It proves that true talented musicians can turn improv into pure gold.

Happy Listening: Wonderful Tonight

Having grown up in Hong Kong, I listen to a lot more Asian music from local, Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean artists. As the music industry is very influenced by Western music, we get a lot of covers and remixes. They are often very different from the usual mainstream pop culture.

Here is Hong Kong’s recent up and coming singer, Khalil Fong’s cover of the classic, Wonderful Tonight, originally by Eric Clapton. It’s really grown on me, and I think the lyrics and tune are beautiful.
