Happy Pinning: Out with the Old, In with the Old

For the past month or so I have dedicated a lot of time to ridding my home of clutter and re-organizing all my possessions, including those in my office/studio. It so easily gets out of hand for me, but I don’t feel it’s because I’m a messy person. I just have an excess of items I haven’t gone through since university. Paper products and clothing seem to be the biggest offenders. So anything considered too old, useless, or uninspiring HAD to go. And not that I’m running out to stores immediately to replace the old stuff, but to keep my space better organized I’ve found that adding extra storage units where needed and a few inspiring decorative items can really help brighten and refresh the space, giving it a new life for 2012. I’m a huge fan of vintage, so here is a wish list for replacing the old with the old.

Happy Listening: With a Girl Like You

Check out this Super 8 style wedding video shot and edited by Sharkpig that features the oldies hit With a Girl Like You. Sharkpig is part of the awesomely rad collective known as The Flash Dance. I’m a huuuuuge fan of this group of artists. They make weddings so much cooler, which is what I’m always trying to do. Below the vid I have a more modern version of the same song by TV on the Radio member, David Sitek, for the beautiful compilation album Dark Was The Night. Have a listen and let me know which you prefer.

Happy Listening!

Happy Listening: Until Tomorrow Then

This song has been at the top of my romance list for years now and I’m so excited to finally be sharing it. It has the essence of a timeless lullaby. The cinematography of the music video is just as mesmerizing as the music itself. You can watch it below or here on Vimeo. The story goes: singer stumbles sorrowfully through desert/Las Vegas dreaming of beautiful songstress.

Prepare to be romanced… Enjoy!

Happy Listening: You Sure Look Swell

I knew posting a song on Valentines, it would have to be uber romantic. So here is a song I have wanted to post for a while, because every time I hear it I fall into a daydream where I’m swaying in a romantic embrace with the one I love. Seemed like the perfect choice.

Happy Valentines!

Happy Listening: I Was Made For You

This song has that ‘doo-wop, by the juke box, sippin’ on a soda pop’ sound. If you’re looking for that classic romantic ballad with a bit of a modern twist, try something like the band She & Him featuring the lovely Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. They are quite the talented pair.

Happy listening!

Friday Wrap: Re-used Paper

This week’s wrap is all about one of the three R’s: Re-use! Yes, I am a bargain-hunter, but sometimes the best bargains are in your own home… and free! There’s no better deal than that. Here are three examples of paper that be re-used and transformed into pretty gift wrap.
Old vintage prints, book pages, or newspaper are great options. If you don’t have any of these at home, thrift stores often carry old books for purchasing too, or grab a newspaper around the corner. Perhaps someone has some old ones just lying around. Just beware of any coffee stains. Happy wrapping!

This one is really something to swoon over. It warms me up more than a steaming cup of hot cocoa. Enjoy!

Happy Listening: Toothpaste Kisses

I’ve been aching to post this song for a long time. From the moment it starts with the sound of a crackling record, you get a sense of an old-fashioned romance. The kind of romance that lasts for eternity. Oh gosh, I’m getting cheesy… But seriously, this song is incredibly endearing. Enjoy!

The Cabaret Collection

Cabaret is a high fashion vintage boutique for both men and women located in Toronto’s Queen Street West area. They have been dressing brides in unique vintage looks for years, but with the limitations in colour, size and style (because let’s face it – real vintage is often ‘one of a kind’), it was difficult to reach the growing demand for such fabulous pieces. From this realization flourished The Cabaret Collection.

“The Cabaret Collection takes its inspiration from the “Cocktail Bride”: A beautiful, stylish, and sophisticated yet fun-loving woman who wants a glamorous vintage-style party dress for her special day.  This distinctive line focuses on the quality and uniqueness found in the fashion of the 40s, 50s, and 60s while meeting the needs of the contemporary bride in fit and styling. The charm of fine detailing, excellent construction, and superb fabric creates a modern-day classic that we hope you love.” {from the Cabaret blog}

They also have beautiful accessories to match your outfit, like this dazzling beaded purse. Other items include: vintage handkerchiefs, hairpieces, hats, and jewelery. Shop for them all here or go check them out for yourself at their downtown location.
